What is a moisture-proof batten light?

A moisture-proof batten light is an elongated luminaire with a sealed housing that protects internal electrical components and LED modules from water ingress, dust and moisture. These luminaires feature IP ratings of IP44 or higher, with IP65 and IP66 being common for professional applications. The sealed construction includes gasket-protected diffusers, sealed cable entries and robust polycarbonate or chemically resistant housings. Moisture-proof batten lights are designed for environments where standard lighting would fail due to humidity, condensation, water splashes or dust exposure, making them essential for outdoor stages, industrial facilities, warehouses, basements and temporary event structures.

When do you need a moisture-proof light?

You need moisture-proof lighting whenever luminaires will be exposed to water, high humidity, condensation or dust. In event technology, this includes outdoor stages, festival installations, temporary structures and marquees where weather protection is essential. Permanent venues such as loading docks, technical galleries, equipment storage areas and basement spaces also require moisture-proof luminaires. Industrial applications include warehouses, production facilities, workshops and any environment subject to water splashes, high-pressure cleaning or significant dust exposure. Even indoor venues with poor climate control or high humidity levels benefit from moisture-proof lighting to prevent condensation-related failures and ensure long-term reliability.

What are batten lights?

Batten lights are elongated luminaires traditionally designed to hold fluorescent tubes, though modern versions predominantly feature integrated LED technology. The term "batten" refers to the characteristic elongated form factor, typically available in 60 cm, 120 cm and 150 cm lengths. These luminaires provide general illumination for technical spaces, workshops, warehouses and utility areas. In event technology, batten lights serve as worklight for backstage areas, loading zones and technical spaces. Moisture-proof variants add sealed housings and high IP ratings, making them suitable for outdoor stages, temporary structures and environments where standard batten lights would be vulnerable to moisture or dust damage.

Are there moisture-proof batten lights with sensors?

Yes, moisture-proof batten lights are available with integrated motion sensors and daylight sensors that automatically control illumination based on occupancy and ambient light levels. Motion sensor variants activate when movement is detected, ideal for infrequently accessed spaces such as storage areas, technical galleries and equipment rooms where continuous lighting would waste energy. Daylight sensor models adjust output or switch off when sufficient natural light is available, optimizing energy consumption in spaces with windows or skylights. Some advanced models combine both sensor types, providing comprehensive automatic control. When specifying sensor-equipped moisture-proof batten lights, ensure the sensor housing maintains the luminaire's IP rating to prevent moisture ingress that could compromise sensor operation.

Can moisture-proof batten lights be dimmed?

Many moisture-proof batten lights feature dimming capability, though not all models support this function. Dimmable variants typically use DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) protocol, allowing precise control of individual luminaires or groups within a lighting system. DALI compatibility is particularly valuable in event venues, exhibition halls and multi-purpose spaces where lighting levels must adapt to different activities. Some models offer 0–10V dimming or phase-cut dimming, though DALI provides superior control and integration with building management systems. When specifying dimmable moisture-proof batten lights, verify that the dimming protocol matches your control infrastructure and that the dimming range meets your application requirements — professional models typically dim to 1% or lower without flickering.

What IP rating do I need for outdoor stage lighting?

For outdoor stage lighting applications, IP65 is the professional minimum standard, providing complete dust protection and resistance to water jets from any direction. IP65-rated moisture-proof batten lights withstand rain, morning dew and high humidity without compromising safety or performance. For permanent outdoor installations or environments subject to high-pressure cleaning, IP66 offers enhanced water protection against powerful water jets. Temporary outdoor events in covered structures may use IP54 or IP44 luminaires if direct rain exposure is unlikely, though IP65 provides greater security against unexpected weather changes. Always verify that cable connections, mounting hardware and electrical distribution maintain the same IP rating as the luminaires to ensure complete system protection.

How do I integrate moisture-proof batten lights into truss systems?

Moisture-proof batten lights integrate into truss systems using mounting brackets compatible with standard rigging hardware. Many professional models feature M10 or M12 mounting points that attach directly to aluminium truss profiles using appropriate clamps and hardware. When mounting moisture-proof batten lights on truss, always use safety cables as secondary retention, complying with DGUV Vorschrift 17 requirements for overhead installations. Calculate total load including luminaires, mounting hardware and cables to ensure truss capacity isn't exceeded. Position luminaires to maintain balanced load distribution across the truss structure. For temporary installations, use IP-rated connectors for electrical connections and protect any exposed wiring with weatherproof enclosures to maintain the system's moisture protection rating.

What does a professional moisture-proof batten light cost?

Professional moisture-proof batten lights typically range from €30 to €150 per unit, depending on length, LED wattage, IP rating and additional features. Basic 120 cm IP65 models with 36W LED output start around €30–€50, suitable for general workshop and warehouse applications. Professional-grade 150 cm IP66 luminaires with 48W output, DALI dimming and emergency lighting function range from €80–€150, appropriate for demanding event technology and industrial installations. Specialized models with integrated sensors, higher IP ratings or ATEX certification command premium pricing. When evaluating cost, consider total ownership expenses including energy consumption, maintenance requirements and lifespan — LED moisture-proof batten lights deliver significant long-term savings compared to traditional fluorescent systems despite higher initial investment.
