What is the difference between a curtain track and a curtain rod?

A curtain track (also called a curtain rail) is a profiled aluminium or plastic channel in which gliders or runners travel, keeping the track largely invisible once installed. A curtain rod is a round or square decorative bar from which fabric hangs on rings or hooks. Curtain tracks are the professional choice for stage and event applications because they carry higher loads, accept motorised drives, and can be integrated into truss or rigging structures. Can curtain tracks be mounted on both ceiling and wall?

Yes — curtain tracks for stage and event use can be mounted on the ceiling via drop rods or ceiling clips, on the wall via adjustable wall brackets, or clamped directly to aluminium truss profiles for freestanding installations. Ceiling mounting maximises the usable drop height and is preferred for large spans. Wall mounting is the practical choice when ceiling access is restricted or ceiling height is low. Truss-mounted curtain tracks require no ceiling fixing at all, making them ideal for trade fair booths and touring productions.

How do I choose between single, double and triple curtain tracks?

The number of tracks should match the number of independent fabric layers you need to operate. A single track suits a simple backdrop, room divider or stage leg. A double track is the standard for stage main curtains that combine a decorative front drape with a blackout lining, or for any installation where two layers must open and close independently. A triple track adds a third inner runner for a sheer overlay or decorative valance. For complex stage dressings with main drape, mid-stage legs and a cyclorama, a multi-track system gives full independent control.

Which curtain system is best for stage and event applications?

For professional stage and event use, a heavy-duty aluminium curtain track with a documented Working Load Limit (WLL) is the correct choice. Motorised drives with DMX control allow cue-precise operation integrated into the show's lighting desk. How does a cord-pull curtain system work?

A cord-pull curtain system routes a continuous loop of cord through the curtain track profile. The cord is connected to the leading glider carrier that holds the fabric. Pulling the front section of the cord draws the curtain closed; pulling the rear section opens it. The operating cord hangs at a fixed point at the side of the track, allowing a technician to open and close the curtain without touching the fabric itself.
