What are the corners called?

Case corners are named by their shape and function. The most common types are ball corners (rounded corners for edge protection), stacking corners (interlocking male and female profiles for secure stacking) and medium or large corners (graded by size and load capacity). In geometry, a corner is also called a vertex or, in German, an Eckpunkt. In case construction at LTT, you choose the named type — ball, stacking or heavy-duty steel corner — that matches your specific build and load requirements.

What has many corners?

In geometry, shapes and bodies with many corners include the pentagon (5 corners) and the regular dodecahedron (20 corners, 12 faces and 30 edges). A cube has 8 corners where three edges meet, and a pyramid has 5 corners. Euler's polyhedron formula describes the relationship between the corners, edges and faces of convex polyhedra. In the case-construction world, a rectangular flight case has corners at each of its eight vertices — which is exactly why a standard case build requires eight protective corner fittings.

In geometry, a hexagon is a two-dimensional shape with 6 corners, where six straight sides meet. A triangular prism is a three-dimensional body that also has 6 corners. In case construction, a six-cornered arrangement is less common than the classic rectangular case, which has eight corners. If you are building a shaped or angled enclosure with six corners, you simply fit one protective corner to each vertex — choosing the corner type and size that matches the load and transport demands of your build.

What does Ecken mean in German?

"Ecken" is the German plural of "Ecke", which translates into English as "corners". Depending on context, Ecke can also mean edge, nook or angle. In geometry, an Ecke is the vertex where lines or edges meet. What is the difference between a ball corner and a stacking corner?

A ball corner is a rounded fitting whose main job is to protect the outer corner of a case from impact and give a clean finish; it suits light to medium transport cases. A stacking corner comes as an interlocking pair — a male and a female profile — that engages when one case is placed on another, preventing the stack from sliding. Stacking corners are essential for touring cases and warehouse storage where cases are stacked several high. Many professional builds combine both types on the same case.

Which corner material should I buy, steel or aluminium?

Choose steel corners when load capacity and impact resistance matter most — for heavy touring cases and stacking applications, steel is the standard. Choose aluminium corners when weight matters, for example on fly cases that travel by air, since aluminium is lighter and naturally corrosion-resistant. Steel is heavier but far more resistant to deformation under load. Which corners suit a professional touring flight case?

A professional touring flight case that is stacked and shipped frequently needs heavy-duty steel stacking corners, ideally powder-coated for corrosion and abrasion resistance. Use interlocking stacking corners on the top and bottom faces so cases lock together in a stack, and reinforce heavy loads with thicker steel corners fixed with plenty of rivets.
