Which rack drawer size (U) do I need?

The right rack drawer size depends on how much free rack space you have and what you want to store. A 1U drawer suits thin cables and adapters, a 2U drawer is the popular all-rounder for mixed small parts, and 3U to 6U drawers hold tools, tape and bulkier accessories. Remember that one rack unit equals 44.45 mm of front height, so a 2U drawer needs about 88.9 mm. Count your unused rack units first, then choose a drawer height that fits without crowding your amplifiers, mixers or effect processors.

Are rack drawers available for sale at LTT?

Yes, rack drawers are available for sale at LTT in a wide selection from manufacturers such as OMNITRONIC, SHOWGEAR, ROADINGER and Adam Hall. You can buy lockable 19-inch drawers in 1U, 2U, 3U, 4U and 6U heights, in steel or aluminium, with typical prices roughly between €64.90 and €150. Most models ship within a standard delivery time of about 3 to 5 days. LTT ships from Bocholt in Germany with free shipping from €69, express delivery on request and worldwide dispatch, so you can order the exact rack drawer your case build needs.

What is a 4U rack case?

A 4U rack case, in the context of rack drawers, describes a component that occupies four rack units of vertical front space, roughly 177.8 mm, in a standard 19-inch rack. A 4U rack drawer therefore offers generous internal volume for tools, connectors, longer cables and mixed accessories. It mounts into the front rails of a case or rack using the 482.6 mm wide 19-inch hole pattern. A 4U drawer is a good choice when you need more capacity than a 2U model but still want to leave room for your devices in the same rack.

What fits in a 1U rack drawer?

A 1U rack drawer offers roughly 44.45 mm of front height, with an inner drawer depth of about 41.5 cm x 35 cm x 3 cm, so it is ideal for flat items. Typical contents include patch cables, XLR and jack adapters, USB sticks and data media, connectors, cable ties and other thin small parts. Because a 1U drawer takes up only a single rack unit, it fits into almost any rack without sacrificing device space. If you need to store bulkier tools or coiled cables, step up to a 2U or 3U drawer instead.

What is a 19'' rack flight case?

A 19'' rack flight case is a rugged transport case built to the standardised 19-inch mounting width of 482.6 mm, designed to house rack-mountable equipment such as amplifiers, mixers, power distributors and effect processors. It protects sensitive gear during transport and keeps a whole system tidy at the venue. Rack drawers are a key accessory for a 19'' rack flight case, because they add lockable, organised storage for cables, tools and small parts right inside the same case. At LTT you find both rack cases and the matching drawers to complete your setup.

What is an 8U rack case with wheels?

An 8U rack case with wheels is a mobile 19-inch flight case that offers eight rack units, around 355.6 mm, of vertical mounting space and integrated castors for easy rolling. The wheels make it practical for touring and event use, letting one person move a fully loaded rack. Within such a case you can combine your devices with rack drawers to store cables, adapters and tools securely. While LTT focuses on the rack drawers themselves, they mount into any 8U rack case using cage nuts and rack screws, turning a rolling case into a well-organised, transport-ready system.

What is a 6U rack case?

A 6U rack case provides six rack units of front height, roughly 266.7 mm, in the standard 19-inch format with a 482.6 mm mounting width. It offers enough space for several devices or a large-capacity rack drawer. A 6U rack drawer, such as the SHOWGEAR 19-inch drawer with keylock, delivers maximum storage volume for a complete technician's kit of cables, tools and spares. When planning a 6U rack case, calculate the units your devices occupy and fill the remaining space with a drawer height that keeps the rack balanced and everything easy to reach.

Should I choose a lockable rack drawer?

A lockable rack drawer is strongly recommended whenever your rack travels, is left unattended at a venue, or is shared among several people. A key lock, usually supplied with 2 keys, or a keyless number-code lock secures cables, tools and valuables against theft and keeps the drawer closed during transport. Steel drawers add extra anti-theft strength thanks to their robust metal construction. If your rack stays in a locked, controlled room, a non-locking tray may suffice, but for touring and event work a lockable rack drawer is the safer, more professional choice.
