What is a universal case?

A universal case is a transport container designed to protect many different devices rather than one specific model. Instead of a milled, model-specific interior, a universal case offers a generously sized space – often with adjustable dividers or customisable pick and pluck foam – so lighting fixtures, effect devices, DMX controllers, cables and DJ gear can share one case. Will a universal case really fit my equipment?

Yes – a universal case is built to fit a wide range of equipment sizes, provided you choose the right dimensions. The key is to compare the inner dimensions of the case against your largest device, including brackets and connectors, and add clearance for foam. Many universal cases add flexibility through pick and pluck foam or adjustable dividers, so you can create custom cavities for irregular gear. For example, an inner space of around 465 x 345 x 165 mm suits DMX controllers and small mixers, while roughly 570 x 540 x 570 mm handles heavier stage tech. Are universal cases as protective as model-specific ones?

What is the difference between a universal case and a custom flight case?
